Fantastic Cars from Television/Movies

Over the years there have been some really memorable vehicles seen on television and in the movies, some we forget about and never think of again while others are as memorable as the characters of the film or show, sometimes more so. Here are just a handful of iconic vehicles that we have all become familiar with through movies and television programmes.

The Batmobile

The Batmobile has taken many forms over the years and recently we have seen it take more of a gothic armoured tank look than seen in previous incarnations. This is one of the great things about the Batmobile, it has continued to develop as the audience has changed over the years.

The Batmobile built for the Batman television series is easily the most recognised Batmobile and this actually came from a customized vehicle that originated from a Ford concept car back in the 1950s. In 1966, when the television series first started, the car was thought to be worth around $125,000 whereas the figure now is around $2 million. Luckily for George Barris (the guy who owned the vehicle) he took advantage of a contract hire deals which meant he only ever leased the vehicle to 20th Century Fox.

1981 DeLorean DMC 12

Being featured in one of the best and most-loved movie trilogies of all time has made this car one of the most famous cars of all time. Without this car, time travel would not have been possible for Dr Emmet Brown and Marty McFly in the Back to the Future movies. Off screen this car was nothing more than an ill-fated sports car, and it wasn’t until 1985 that the car started to become popular. Nowadays DeLorean’s are very rare indeed and a good one will tend to sell for quite a substantial sum of money. This is mainly due to enthusiasts who like to adapt them so that they look like the vehicle from Back to the Future. Let’s face it; would it have worked if they had chosen a people carrier?

1963 Volkswagen Beetle

While this might not spark any specific memories if I was to mention the name Herbie you might realise what car I am talking about. If you are still unsure the number 53 could do it for you and if you are still struggling, look it up! This car is featured in many Disney motion pictures and it all started in 1968. The car is supposed to have a mind of its own and is capable of not only driving itself but showing emotions too. The Herbie franchise was given a
reboot in 2005 but I think Lindsay Lohan made sure that there will not be another Herbie film made at least for a good number of years.

Hopefully this will not encourage you to try and fit rocket boosters or a flux capacitor to your Ford Fiesta hopefully it has prompted memories of other iconic vehicles that are as famous as the actors who appeared with them. There is, of course, the James Bond (when played by Sean Connery) Aston Martin, The Steve McQueen Ford Mustang from the film Bullitt, the glorious Starsky and Hutch Ford Gran Torino, the Mad Max Interceptor and of course, Mr Bean’s British Leyland Mini 1000.
